Day 4

Guest blogger...Jennifer

Ning Song Sam ka Dod!

Work day 4 began with the usual concrete mixing, all under the careful direction of Ron A., followed by moving 3 stacks of 100 bricks into the house so we could begin building the exterior walls. Michelle, with Tata as her smiling Thai assistant, made name bracelets for some of the neighborhood children.

Kodi brought his sidewalk chalk and soon the street in front of our house was bright and colourful with the kids drawings. Christa and I tried to entice some shy girls to join us in Ning Song Sam Ka Dod (1,2,3, jump!)

The team had great success building the walls, reaching 4 rows high all around plus a small interior wall of 7 rows completed before lunch. Tom, Anne and Mrs. Sutham cooked a fabulous lunch of spring rolls, chicken nuggets, salad and pineapple ‘popsicles’ and of course the regulation litres of water. Yummy!

David and Tata having some fun...

We had to let the mortar set so after lunch a visit to the child centre was planned. We waited 45 minutes for our bus to come and just as we decided to wall, you guessed it – the bus showed up to drive us the 30 seconds around the corner!
At the centre we were greeted by 70 smiling Thai faces. After rousing renditions of head and Shoulders” and “The Hokey Pokey” (thanks Mark!) we all went outside for some skipping, juggling, Frisbee and duck, duck, goose – where Dayne’s competitive side came out! Lots of smiles and laughs from all and so wonderful to see everyone making new friends and sharing a special, joyful afternoon. As always I was melting in the Thai sun but today a little piece of my heart did too.
“And that’s’ what it’s all about"

The long, dirty ride home...
